Guide to Copenhagen: Through A Stylist's Eye

We were lucky enough to visit the Danish capital, Copenhagen, back in May for the first in our new series #SGVisits. In this series, we will be showing you our favourite ways to explore a new city through a stylist’s eye - focusing on all things creative including design-led food, design-led shopping and design-led experiences. We even met new friends including Humberto Marques, owner of Copenhagen's best cocktail bar, Curfew and Ursula Waltemath, owner of Nordic-Italian fusion restaurant, Brace.

This is our design tour of Copenhagen.

We investigate the growing trend for Scandinavian Minimalism, enlisting the insight of some experts in the field to discover whether it's possible to achieve the lux aesthetic on a budget.

Scandinavian style stands for simple, calm and pure expression. This makes it easy to grasp, very photogenic and ultimately, attainable for all. But is it affordable for all? Many might associate this look with designer brands and high price tags, but thankfully for those of us who strive style but are on a tight budget, both well-known and independent brands have adopted the trend in order to offer timeless design to the mass market.

London Design Festival only happens once a year - and it certainly cannot be missed. It celebrates and promotes London as the design capital of the world and attracts designers from around the world to exhibit, similarly to Milan's Salone Del Mobile and Paris' Maison Objet. We were invited to come along to this year's event by the Future London Academy as part of their 'Interior and Experience Design Week' from 18th to 22nd September, discovering a rich mix of talks, studio visits, and guest lectures curated by partnering design, consultancy and media practices.

Future London Academy partnered with London Design Festival to showcase the best parts of the extensive event, including visits to our favourite exhibitions including Design Junction and London Design Fair (formerly TENT London). The programme of the course is divided into five workshop days plus the weekend.
