One To Watch: Hecker Guthrie

Now this really is One To Watch for all fellow design junkies. Hecker Guthrie are an innovative interior design studio based in Australia and are, in our opinion, the next big thing to come out of Australia. Hecker Guthrie's design approach is to 'create a unique identity for each project', this authenticity resonates not only in their design solution but in the selection of a natural palette of materials. We just love everything they do.

The two brains behind the brand are Paul Hecker and Hamish Guthrie, Hamish is often considered the quieter of the pair whereas Paul is an inquisitive thinker across many design platforms. A pairing which often the key foundation of great design and a sound business partnership between contrasting personalities. Within the studio itself, a 17 person staff collaboratively share design inspiration and offer a wealth of interdisciplinary skills, drawing upon several areas of expertise: Interior Design, Building Design, Industrial Design, Furniture Design and Styling. All backed up by a strong administrative support team.

We are lucky enough to be visiting Melbourne in March, where Hecker Guthrie are based, and we have even been invited to an exciting exhibition they are holding shortly after our arrival. The reason why each Hecker Guthrie project is so successful is their obsessive attention to detail in both the design process and creative imagination. Every step has been considered to create a design that is thought out step-by-step, reworked until they reach perfection. The final 'icing on the cake' is the photography, each project is beautifully crafted by Australia's finest: Shannon McGrath, Eve Wilson, Sean Fennessy and Derek Swalwell.

A creative force led by original ideas, Northern Lighting was established in 2005 in Oslo, with designs guided by Scandinavian simplicity. Naturally, we have fallen in love with both their designs and business philosophies.
